Transfer News

Dean Huijsen has been officially presented as the new Real Madrid players today.

The former Bournemouth defender, who has arrived amidst massive expectations, will wear the number 24 shirt from the 2025/26 season as well as at the FIFA Club World Cup.

During his unveiling, the 20-year-old centre-back spoke on several subjects, but he began by expressing his happiness, “It is the best day of my life. It’s a dream to be here. I’ll give everything for the team.”

The youngster was asked about choosing number 24 for his new club, to which he simply said, “The 24th was the one available.”

On conversation with Xabi Alonso

The defender went on to reveal that he spoke to Xabi Alonso during the transfer talks, where he noted what the new manager expects from him.

“Yes, we’ve talked a bit. About what he expects of me. I think these are going to be great years. I fit in very well with Xabi’s football. I’m going to try to contribute to the team, and I’m happy to do whatever I can to help,” he added.

The 20-year-old also noted that he received a message from his idol and Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos. “He sent me a message the day it became official. He’s my biggest idol, the best centre back in history.”

He also remembered the 2014 UEFA Champions League final as his favourite memory of Sergio Ramos.

“The first is the 2014 final, where Ramos scored a goal in the final minute. I was nine years old, and it’s my earliest memory.”

Ready to make it big

The young defender was reminded that the expectations at a club like Real Madrid are very high, to which he calmly said,

I think I’ve proven I’m ready. Whatever I can help with, I’m here. And the challenge is clear: I want to win it all. I’m very ambitious.”

Speaking at an event where his family was also present, he added, “It’s a dream. My family will be proud of me, and I am too.

“I don’t think about anything beyond that. Any number I wear is good enough for me, as long as it’s for Real Madrid.”

It is to be noted that Huijsen has become the most expensive defender in Real Madrid’s history, but he is unbothered by the numbers. “I don’t really care, so to speak. I don’t think about it. I try to give my best.”

He also revealed that several players from the first team messaged him upon his signing. “A couple of them messaged me. They’re really nice people. I’ll see if I can meet them soon,” he added.
