Inter dominated early on and were almost rewarded with the opener after Lautaro Martínez reacted first to Stefano Turati's save and volleyed into the net, but the goal was ruled out for handball during the build-up.

The Nerazzurri kept threatening before they were stunned by a rapid Monza counter-attack, finished by Samuele Birindelli from Dany Mota's backheeled assist.

Monza struck again just before half time, with Keita Baldé cutting in from the left flank and curling an unstoppable strike into the top corner.

To cap a frantic end to the first period, Inter pulled a goal back in injury time when Marko Arnautović stooped to convert from Denzel Dumfries' headed cross.

Inter took control after break and piled the pressure on Monza, which paid off as Hakan Çalhanoğlu rifled a 20-yard half volley straight into the bottom corner with 30 minutes remaining.

The Nerazzurri then completed their comeback in the closing stages and Martínez's diving header crept over the goal line before Monza goalkeeper Turati could claw the ball to safety.

Simone Inzaghi's Inter moved four points clear ahead of second-place Napoli in the Serie A title race thanks to Martínez's late winner and Monza remain bottom of the table following a third successive defeat.
