The match began at a frantic pace and Bologna goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski was forced into early action, producing a quick reaction double save from Luka Jović and Christian Pulisic's close-range attempts.

Both sides probed for an opening in the first period and Bologna's Emil Holm went close with a towering header that Mike Maignan held to keep the score level at half time.

Bologna applied pressure after the break and Dan Ndoye found the breakthrough with a neat touch and powerful finish past Maignan from inside the area.

Milan came forward in search of an equaliser but almost conceded a second in the final 15 minutes when Ndoye lashed wide from the edge of the box.

Ultimately, Milan couldn't break down the resolute Rossoblu defence and the Rossoneri's 23-year wait for a Coppa Italia title rumbles on, while Ndoye's rifled finish led Bologna to their first cup victory since 1974.
